Elaboration devices 5
----------- Continued from elaboration4
(ex 1-2) He loves working with you; he also loves working with Tom.
(Question 2)
What is the role of what comes after semi-colon (;) ?
(A) Elaboration
(B) Exemplification
(C) Paraphrasing
(D) addition
B. Colon (;)
(ex 2-1) He loves anything cold: cold winter days, cold windows, not to mention ice.
(Question 3)
What is the most direct role of what comes after colon (:) ?
(A) Elaboration
(B) Exemplification
(C) Addition
(D) Specification
만일 문제에 the most direct role이라는 표현이 없었다면 (ex 1-1)의 경우와 같이 (D)부연설명이 답이다.
(ex 2-2) He loves anything cold: he wants to live in Antarctica.
(Question 4)
What is the role of what comes after colon (:) ?
(A) Elaboration
(B) Exemplification
(C) Addition
(D) Specification
<설명> 정답 (A).
1. specification(구체화)
2. cause and effect(원인과 결과)
3. comparison and contrast(비교와 대조)
그는 남극에 살고 싶어할 정도로(he wants to live in Antarctica) 뭐든지 차가운 것/추운 것을 좋아한다(He loves anything coldè stress 강조)
2. colon
3. semi-colon
